Eric in Toronto, Ontario asks…

Jake, Spring training is near for the Blue Jays. Who do you think the number one starter will be?

Answer: Whoever has the best showing at spring training

The Jays’ opening day “ace” could wind up in AAA this year. Without Roy Halladay, the club has a surplus of young arms. However, they have potential, nothing more. Ricky Romero, Brandon Morrow, Shaun Marcum, and Scott Richmond (if healthy) could make the season’s first start. Based on last seasons’s statistics, Romero is the top candidate. The Rookie of the Year nominee posted a 4.30 earned run average in 2009.

At this juncture, the Jays’ pitching situation is uncertain and could remain as such throughout what is bound to be a challenging 2010 campaign.
