Ed in Halifax, Nova Scotia asks…
I know that you don’t like to talk about the Olympics, but if you could pick one player who is not on the Team Canada hockey team that should be, who would it be?
Answer: Steven Stamkos
The only reason that Steven Stamkos was not selected to represent Canada at the upcoming Olympics was his age. At 20, the Markham, Ontario native did not have enough “experience.”
While his statistics do not change his age, they should alter the perception. In 57 games, Stamkos has 32 goals and 29 assists. He is on pace to score 46 goals and record 41 helpers. Put simply, the first overall pick of the 2008 Entry Draft is projected to notch more points than Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, and Jonathan Toews…just to name a few. If Getzlaf, who injured his ankle on Monday night, is unable to suit up for Canada, Stamkos ought to get the call.
