Of all the MLB free agent signings, who is a bust waiting to happen?
Jake’s Answer: Marco Scutaro, Boston Red Sox
2009 was a breakout year for Marco Scutaro. He had always been a utility player, but last season, Scutaro flourished as the Toronto Blue Jays starting shortstop. After becoming a free agent, the Venezuelan signed a two-year, $11 million pact with the Boston Red Sox. He is a career .265/.337/.409 hitter, far from flattering numbers. A breakout year at the age of thirty-four was likely a one off. Boston has been in need of a shortstop since the departure of fan favorite Nomar Garciaparra. Scutaro is probably not the answer. Thankfully for the Red Sox, his contract is not gargantuan.
Note: Jason Kendall, who signed with the Kansas City Royals, cannot be a bust. After all, his ‘09 campaign was far from stellar.

Nice Post.
Roth: Thanks!
